Apple releases HomePod Software 27.2 with Sound Glow and new speaker features

Apple has released HomePod Software 27.2, bringing the new Sound Glow feature to existing HomePod models alongside expanded speaker options and new controls.
Sound Glow makes the illuminated surface on supported HomePod models pulse with colors that match the audio being played, drawing from album artwork and working with music, podcasts and Apple’s ambient sounds.
The feature is available on the second-generation HomePod and the original HomePod mini, as well as the new HomePod mini 2. It is not available on the original full-size HomePod.
HomePod Software 27.2 also adds support for using compatible HomePods as the default speaker for a Mac, alongside expanded surround sound support when paired with Apple TV. A new Lock Controls option can disable touch interactions on the top of the speaker.
The update arrives shortly before the new HomePod mini 2 reaches customers, with Apple’s latest speaker requiring HomePod Software 27.2.
HomePod updates normally install automatically, although users can manually check through the Home app on iPhone, iPad or Mac.
