Apple releases iOS 27.1 exclusively for iPhone Duo ahead of launch

Apple has released the final version of iOS 27.1, with the update available exclusively for iPhone Duo just hours before the foldable iPhone reaches customers around the world.
The release is unusual because iOS 27.1 is not being offered to the rest of Apple’s iPhone lineup. Instead, the software has been built specifically for iPhone Duo, which uses a new foldable design, two displays and interface changes that are not required on conventional iPhones.
Apple has now made the full and final release of iOS 27.1 available for the device ahead of its Friday, October 23 launch.
Apple is shipping iPhone Duo with iOS 27.1, but the version installed during manufacturing is already older than the latest build. The Apple Post previously reported that iPhone Duo buyers would have a software update waiting during setup after Apple issued a newer iOS 27.1 build ahead of launch.
iOS 27.1 includes software changes created around iPhone Duo’s 5.4-inch outer display and 7.6-inch inner display, including support for the different ways apps transition between the two screens and the device’s new multitasking capabilities.
The software will continue to evolve after launch. Apple has already confirmed additional iPhone Duo-specific features are coming later, including Reachability support later this year, while developers are continuing to update their apps for the foldable format.
The release comes as the first iPhone Duo deliveries begin reaching customers in Australia and New Zealand, with the rollout continuing globally throughout Friday.
iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States and £1,999 in the UK. For the latest Apple news and iPhone Duo coverage, download The Apple Post app on iPhone and iPad.
