Apple could release the iOS 27 Release Candidate tomorrow

Apple could give developers and public beta testers the near-final version of iOS 27 tomorrow, with the iOS 27 Release Candidate likely to arrive shortly after the company’s September 9 special event.
The Release Candidate, commonly shortened to RC, is typically the version Apple considers ready for public release. Unless significant last-minute problems are discovered, the same build can then become the version released to millions of iPhone users days later.
Apple has already completed an extensive summer beta cycle for iOS 27, with the eighth developer beta arriving on August 31 alongside new test versions of iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, visionOS 27 and macOS 27.
iOS 27 RC could arrive after Apple’s September 9 event
Recent history strongly points towards tomorrow. In 2025, Apple released the iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 Release Candidates on September 9, the same day as its annual iPhone event. As reported by MacRumors at the time, those RC builds followed the ninth beta versions of the software.
Apple’s 2026 “Surprise and shine” event begins tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, or 6:00 p.m. in the UK. If Apple follows its established pattern, the company could make iOS 27 RC available after the presentation concludes.
The timing would also give developers several days to perform final testing before the public rollout. The Apple Post expects iOS 27 could be released publicly on Monday, September 14, based on Apple’s release schedule over the previous four years.
What does iOS 27 Release Candidate mean?
An RC is considerably closer to the finished public software than a conventional beta. Apple uses the release candidate stage to distribute what it believes can become the final version while leaving time to address any serious issues found before launch.
That does not guarantee the first RC will be identical to the eventual public build. Apple can issue another Release Candidate if a problem is discovered, but in many cases the RC build proceeds to the wider public unchanged.
Tomorrow’s expected software activity may extend beyond the iPhone. Release Candidates for iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 could also arrive as Apple prepares its major annual operating system updates for public release.
The arrival of iOS 27 RC would therefore be one of the clearest signs yet that the summer beta period is effectively over and the public launch is only days away.
