Apple TV is about to receive its next major software update, with Apple expected to confirm the tvOS 27 release date alongside its other operating systems following tomorrow’s September event.
Apple introduced tvOS 27 at WWDC26 in June and has spent the summer beta testing the update. The eighth developer beta arrived at the end of August, putting the software firmly into the final phase of testing ahead of its public release.
If Apple follows the schedule used for its other platforms, Monday, September 14 is a strong candidate for the tvOS 27 launch. Apple has increasingly released tvOS alongside iOS, iPadOS and watchOS rather than treating the Apple TV update as a separate launch.
The Apple Post reported in July that Apple had opened public testing for tvOS 27 alongside the rest of its new operating systems, giving users several months to test the update before the final version.
tvOS 27 is smaller in scope than iOS 27, but it still brings changes for Apple TV users. The update includes a redesigned Podcasts app, larger text options and a more responsive Control Center.
The timing is particularly interesting because Apple has also been linked to new Apple TV hardware. The Apple Post recently reported that an updated Apple TV 4K has appeared among the products potentially coming from Apple this fall, although it is less certain for tomorrow’s keynote than the new iPhones and Apple Watches.
Regardless of whether new hardware appears tomorrow, tvOS 27 should not be far away. A Release Candidate could arrive immediately after the event, followed by the public version during the following week.
