Apple has finally published the full release notes for tvOS 27, nearly two weeks after the major Apple TV software update was released to users.
tvOS 27 launched on September 14 with a range of changes across Apple Music, Podcasts, AirPlay and accessibility, but Apple did not immediately publish its usual support document detailing everything included in the update.
Unlike iPhone and iPad, Apple TV does not display detailed release notes for software updates directly in the Settings app. Apple instead periodically updates an online support document explaining what’s new in tvOS.
The newly published notes confirm that Apple Music on Apple TV now supports Hi-Res Lossless audio, alongside AutoMix, which uses time stretching and beat matching to create DJ-like transitions between compatible songs.
The redesigned Podcasts app also gains support for video podcasts, bringing shows with video components directly to the television.
Apple says AirPlay performance has been improved to provide faster and more responsive connections when sharing photos, videos and music from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to Apple TV.
Another addition is transcribed audio, which can display text for spoken content when conventional captions or subtitles are not available.
Accessibility improvements include Dynamic Text support, allowing users to set a preferred text size across supported apps rather than relying on each app’s individual settings.
Apple has also introduced individual app controls in Settings that allow specific apps to be blocked from being launched. The feature adds another layer of control for households where access to particular Apple TV apps needs to be restricted.
tvOS 27 additionally includes broader caption support, performance improvements, bug fixes and security updates.
The update is available for the Apple TV 4K second generation and later. Apple dropped support for the original Apple TV 4K and the older Apple TV HD with this year’s release.
Apple is also preparing a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, with leaked imagery found in the company’s own code providing further evidence that new hardware is approaching.
tvOS 27 is available now as a free software update for compatible Apple TV 4K models.
