Apple could launch new Mac mini within days ahead of iPhone event

Apple could be preparing to launch a new Mac mini within days, potentially arriving before the company’s expected September event for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is getting ready to introduce an updated version of the Mac mini for the first time in almost two years, with the launch possibly happening ahead of next month’s major iPhone keynote.
The timing would be unusual, as Apple typically saves larger hardware announcements for dedicated events or coordinated press releases. However, a Mac mini refresh could be announced separately if the update is focused mainly on performance rather than a redesign.
The current Mac mini has reportedly become difficult to buy in recent months, with some customers facing long delivery estimates. Demand is said to have increased partly because of users looking for compact desktop Macs capable of running AI tools and local models.
It is not yet clear whether the new Mac mini will use Apple’s M5 or M6 chip. Gurman says Apple has tested versions with both generations, unlike the upcoming iMac refresh, which is expected to move directly to the M6 chip.
The Mac mini is also expected to become part of Apple’s growing US manufacturing push. Apple recently reiterated plans to begin producing the Mac mini at its Houston facility later this year, the same site being used for the company’s advanced manufacturing work and AI server production.
It remains unclear whether the model expected to launch in the coming days is the same version that will later be assembled in Houston, but the timing suggests the new Mac mini could play an important role in Apple’s wider manufacturing plans.
If released before the September event, the new Mac mini could also become one of the final product launches under Tim Cook as Apple CEO before John Ternus takes over the role on September 1.
The Mac mini is not the only Mac update reportedly in Apple’s pipeline. Gurman says Apple is also preparing a refreshed iMac with new color options and an updated entry-level MacBook Pro, both expected to use the M6 chip.
Further ahead, Apple is also said to be working on its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models, featuring OLED displays, redesigned cases, and 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes.
