Apple has previewed iPadOS 18, the next-generation software update for iPad with new features and capabilities.
Among the highlights is the introduction of Calculator with Math Notes, providing users with a tool for solving mathematical equations directly on their iPads. Additionally, the Notes app has received enhancements, including Smart Script for more flexible and legible handwritten notes, as well as improved organization features for typed text.
Another notable addition is the expansion of customization options for the Home Screen and Control Center, allowing users to personalize their iPad interfaces to suit their preferences. With new options for arranging app icons, widgets, and control settings.
Coming later in the year, iPadOS 18 will be available on the iPad Pro (M4), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later), iPad Air (M2), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (7th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later).
iPadOS 18 also marks the debut of Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system integrated across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. This system utilizes generative models and personal context to deliver useful and relevant insights, simplifying everyday tasks and interactions while prioritizing user privacy.
Furthermore, the Photos app received a major redesign, making it easier for users to organize and relive their special moments. With features like simplified navigation, automatic organization, and customizable collections, users can spend less time searching for photos and more time enjoying them.
In Messages, users now have access to new text formatting options and animated text effects, as well as the ability to schedule messages to be sent later.
Safari also received updates, including a redesigned Reader experience and the introduction of Highlights, which surfaces key information from webpages using machine learning. These improvements streamline web browsing and information discovery, making it easier for users to find what they need quickly and efficiently.
Additionally, iPadOS 18 introduces new privacy controls, such as locked and hidden apps, to give users more control over their data and app usage.
