150+ 3D movies and new ‘spatial games’ coming to Apple Vision Pro
Apple has revealed that Apple Vision Pro users will be able to watch over 150 3D movies, and play an all-new category of “spatial games,” including Game Room, What the Golf?, and Super Fruit Ninja, that will offer unique gameplay and viewing experiences made just for Apple Vision Pro.
In an announcement on Monday, where the iPhone maker revealed that Apple Vision Pro will be available for pre-order in the US on January 19, with in-store availability beginning on February 2, the company teased that within the Apple TV app, users will be able to access more than 150 3D titles. “Vision Pro also introduces Apple Immersive Video, a remarkable new entertainment format.” The new format will offer 180-degree, three-dimensional 8K recordings captured with Spatial Audio.
Additionally, players will be able to access games on the App Store, including more than 250 titles on Apple Arcade, as well as a collection of new spatial games which “take advantage of the powerful capabilities of Apple Vision Pro to transform the space around players, offering unique and engaging gameplay experiences.”
Apple unveiled its new $3,499 Apple Vision Pro headset last year, made from a singular piece of three-dimensionally formed laminated glass with an aluminum alloy frame that curves to wrap a user’s face. The device features an array of advanced cameras and sensors that work together to enable the mixed-reality experience, and speakers are positioned close to a users ears to deliver Spatial Audio to create life-like three-dimensional environments.
The new Apple Vision Pro headset runs a software called visionOS, which is heavily inspired by macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. visionOS features a brand-new three-dimensional interface controlled by a person’s eyes, hands, and voice. Users can browse through apps by simply looking at them, tapping their fingers to select, flicking their wrist to scroll, or using voice to dictate.
