Apple software engineers working hard to ready visionOS for Vision Pro launch
Apple’s software engineers are working hard to prepare visionOS, the operating system build for the upcoming Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, ahead of the device’s launch planned for early 2024, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman says “At Apple, software and operations employees are preparing the Vision Pro for its debut. The hardware itself has been ready to go for months, letting the Vision Products Group — the team behind the device — move on to next-generation models.”
With work on the next Vision Pro early, Apple’s software engineer team are working in full force to prepare visionOS for its public debut. Apple has seeded four developer beta versions of the software to date, allowing developers to prepare their apps for the new mixed-reality device.
In June, Apple opened new hands-on Apple Vision Pro developer labs for developers to experience how their visionOS, iPadOS, or iOS apps will run on Vision Pro, with new pop-up workshops opening in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo.
Additionally, developers can apply to receive an Apple Vision Prodevelopment kit for in-office testing, although kits are strictly limited to select developers.
