Apple has added the original Apple Watch to its list of obsolete products, including the $17,000 solid-gold Apple Watch Edition, completely ending hardware support, including repairs, and replacement services for the wearables after ending software updates with watchOS 4.3.2 in 2018.
As reported by MacRumors, Apple recently sent an employee memo informing staff at its retail stores that from September 30, the “Series 0” watches would reach the end of their product lifecycle, with replacement parts and repairs being ended entirely at Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Provider locations.
The original Apple Watch, which was first introduced by Apple on April 24, 2015, was available in three different models: Apple Watch Sport: This model featured an aluminum case, Apple Watch: The standard Apple Watch with a stainless steel case and the Apple Watch Edition: the high-end version of the Apple Watch, featuring an 18-karat gold or rose gold case.
Celebrities who were spotted wearing the Apple Watch Edition at launch include Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Drake, Katy Perry and Kanye West.
