Apple shares new video showing how Apple Watch helped save injured cyclist

Apple has shared a new video highlighting how the Apple Watch’s safety features helped rescue a cyclist after a serious mountain biking accident.
Published on Apple’s YouTube channel, the video tells the story of Phil, who was riding with his children when he suffered a crash that left him unconscious. After misjudging a jump, Phil broke his collarbone and seven ribs before losing consciousness following the impact.
Because he was wearing an Apple Watch, the device detected the hard fall and automatically contacted emergency services using Fall Detection and Emergency SOS. The watch also shared his location with first responders, allowing firefighters to quickly find him and transport him to hospital, where he spent a week recovering from his injuries.
Apple says the incident demonstrates how Apple Watch can automatically recognise a severe fall and, if the wearer does not respond within a set period of time, contact emergency services and notify emergency contacts with the user’s location.
The latest video is part of Apple’s ongoing campaign highlighting real-world stories from Apple Watch users whose lives have been impacted by the device’s health and safety features. Last year, Apple showcased several similar stories during its October 2025 “Awe Dropping” event, while earlier this year the company launched its “Thankfully, I was wearing it” campaign in China, featuring users who credited Fall Detection, Crash Detection, and heart rate notifications with helping them during emergencies.
Apple Watch includes a growing range of safety features designed to assist users in emergency situations, including Fall Detection, Crash Detection, Emergency SOS, high and low heart rate notifications, irregular rhythm notifications, and Check In.
