Pegatron restarts iPhone production after factory fire in India
Apple supplier Pegatron has restarted iPhone production at its plant in Chennai, India following a fire last week, according to The Economic Times, citing a government official in the know.
Last week, production lines were closed following a “fire incident.” At the time, the stoppage was described as temporary, but the shutdown continued for close to a week as repair work was carried out at the plant.
Pegatron’s Chennai factory, which began operations in 2022, currently makes the iPhone 14, iPhone 13 and older models, meant for local sale in India as well as for exports.
“As per the information we have received from the company, operations at the factory have resumed almost entirely barring that one line where the fire took place. We have been told that from tomorrow onwards, the factory will be fully operational,” the government official said.
Production resumed after a “minor” fire incident late evening on Sunday stemming from a mobile charging rack where newly made phones are tested to see whether they can be charged without issues, ET reports.
