Research firm suggests it costs Apple around $454 to make the iPhone 14 Pro Max
Apple spends around $454 to make the iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to a new report from Counterpoint Research (via 9to5Mac) which provides a “blended bill of materials” that suggests that the latest top-of-the-range iPhone is roughly 3.4% more expensive for Apple to make than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
According to the firm, which 9to5Mac obtained information from, the A16 Bionic chip inside the iPhone 14 Pro Max costs round $11 more per unit than the A15 Bionic chip on the previous-generation iPhone 13 Pro, with the “processing” category, which includes the A16 Bionic chip, now accounting for 20% of the total materials cost of the device itself.
The report suggests that producing a 128GB iPhone 14 Pro Max smartphone costs Apple up to $474, compared to the regular sale price of $1,099.00.
Apple doesn’t disclose manufacturing costs for any of its products or components, so it is hard to pinpoint how actuate the “blended bill of materials” are.
Despite the sharp difference between the component and regular sale price device, it is worth noting that the approximate $474 “blended bill of materials” does not including costs such as research and development, assembly, marketing or distribution, meaning that the overall cost to produce an iPhone from start to finish will be much higher than the price provided in the research.
