Apple reportedly set to bid for English Premier League broadcasting rights

Apple is reportedly preparing a bid to acquire the domestic broadcasting rights for the English Premier League, according to a report from British tabloid newspaper The Daily Mail.
The newspaper claims that Apple will submit a bid later this year when the tender process for the next set of rights begins ahead of the Premier League’s current three-year deal with Sky Sports and BT Sport coming to an end in 2025.
The report follows after the NFL in the US announced that Apple has signed a multi-year partnership for Apple Music to sponsor the Super Bowl Halftime Show, the most-watched musical performance of the year worldwide beginning this year, and — most notably — that the Apple TV app will be exclusively steaming live Major League Soccer matches beginning in 2023, demonstrating Apple’s eagerness to stream live sports through its Apple TV service.
Rival bidders for the English Premier League broadcasting rights will likely include Sky Sports, BT Sport, and Amazon Prime Video.
The Daily Mail reports that many English football clubs with American owners, such as Chelsea under Todd Boehly, are convinced that at £5.1billion over three years the current rights are undervalued and are looking to US tech companies to drive up the price, with Apple likely to submit a multi-billion-pound deal that could see Sky Sports loose its exclusive rights to broadcast the English Premier League since 1992.
