Tesla launches new $300 AirPower-like wireless charger to charge up to three Qi devices at once
Tesla has announced a rival to Apple’s failed AirPower wireless charger, with the electric car manufacturer launching a new Tesla Wireless Charging Platform that can charge up to three Qi devices at once.
Inspired by the angular design and metallic styling of Cybertruck, the futuristic-looking EV truck from Tesla, the new Wireless Charging Platform features a detachable magnetic stand that allows users to lay the charger flat or at an angle, providing 15W of fast charging power per device for up to three devices simultaneously.
Available to order now with deliveries beginning in February 2023, the Tesla Wireless Charging Platform is priced at $300 and uses FreePower® technology, which charges Qi capable devices such as iPhones and AirPods placed anywhere on its surface without precise alignment, exactly what Apple intended to achieve with AirPower before the project was scrapped due to technical challenges.
Apple announced its AirPower project was canceled in 2019, at the time saying the company wasn’t able to meet its high standards for hardware following numerous reports from industry sources claiming engineers were battling with overheating issues during testing.
Like the new Tesla Wireless Charging Platform, Apple’s AirPower was supposed to allow users to charge three Apple devices at once, including an iPhone, Apple Watch and a wireless AirPods charging case.
