Apple reportedly redesigning default Camera app for iPhone 14 Pro, featuring new layout with repositioned buttons

Apple is reportedly working on a redesigned version of the default Camera app, according to a source cited by 9to5Mac, who claims that the updated version of the app will feature a new layout with repositioned buttons that take advantage of the space that will be made available with the rumored iPhone 14 Pro notch redesign, which is said to see the rectangular space at the top of the iPhone’s display where the Face ID and front-facing camera system sit be shrunken to a new floating long pill-shape-like block.
According to the source, who says the plans are subject to change and could be scrapped, the planned Camera app redesign will see the controls currently hidden in a drop-down menu, such as the flash, timer, exposure controls, aspect ratios, and more, moved upwards into the status bar, allowing them to be more easily accessed.
The report suggests that the new Camera layout would be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, considering that these are the only two new models that are expected to see the rumored long pill-shape-like block notch redesign.
These optimizations for the new iPhone 14 Pro display cutout are ones that Apple has tested and currently plans to implement. Given that they are software features rather than hardware features, however, they could be changed or scrapped altogether based on final testing.
Hardware-related camera updates are expected to play a big part in this year’s “Pro”-series iPhone upgrade. Apple is rumored to increase the size of the camera bump on the rear of the two new devices, likely due to a new 48-megapixel camera sensor, marking the first-megapixel upgrade on an iPhone since the iPhone 6s, released in 2015, offering 8K video recording and improved picture quality.
