Apple’s rumored AR/VR headset expected to enter mass production in August-September
Apple’s long-rumored AR/VR headset will reportedly enter mass production in August-September ahead of a planned launch in fall, according to a report from DigiTimes.
The report gives more details following the early preview of the paywalled story yesterday that claimed the device has now completed Apple’s second-phase engineering validation tests, moving the product one step closer to mass production.
DigiTimes note how the wearable will be “mainly targeting professional vertical market applications,” with previous reports suggesting the product will be priced around $3,000, with Apple initially setting its sights on shipping around 250,000 units of the device in its first year of release.
Bloomberg reported last month how Apple was reportedly facing overheating issues with prototypes of the new AR/VR headset, noting how delays at this stage could push the wearable’s launch back to later in the year or early next year.
Respected industry analysts reported last year that the headset would comprise of 15 camera modules are expected to be placed around the wearable to enable pass-through VR, which would allow the user to “see through” the device and see the real world through the visor, displayed on a screen, enabling advanced AR and “innovative biometrics.”
