Apple adds UNiDAYS verification requirement to Apple Education Store in the US
Apple now requires students, teachers, and other education workers in the US to verify their affiliation with an educational institution through UNiDAYS to receive discounts through the Apple Education Store, just like the verification requirement in other countries around the world, including India and the United Kingdom.
UNiDAYS is a discount service that allows students and faculty staff to access exclusive discounts and deals. The service requires members to sign up with an institution issued personal email address or an institution issued student ID card, proving their eligibility to access the educational discounts.
Apple says the Apple Education Store is open to “current and newly accepted university students, and teachers and staff at all levels.” Until the recent change, anyone claiming to be a student or affiliated with a school would usually receive the educational discount in-store based on trust and good faith.
Asides from countries that already required UNiDAYS verification, the US is the only new country to require the tighter pre-purchase screening. It is unclear if the new requirement will be extended further to other regions anytime soon.
