Purported leak claims Apple adding notch to new MacBook Pro
Ahead of Monday’s “Unleashed” special event, which is expected to see the launch of the rumored new M1X MacBook Pro, redesigned AirPods, and more, a purported leak on Weibo is claiming Apple will add a notch at the top of the display of the new MacBook Pro to house the machine’s FaceTime camera and more.
The images, shared on Twitter by DuanRui on Saturday, show the familiar-looking iPhone notch at the top of the machine’s display, appearing to show a FaceTime camera, microphone, and an ambient light sensor packaged into a notch.
Despite featuring a notch, the new MacBook Pro isn’t expected to see Apple bring Face ID to the Mac. Instead, the alleged leak suggests Apple will keep the Touch ID sensor found on previous generations of the machine above the keyboard in the top right corner.
Oh no. Why is the new MacBook Pro screen notched? pic.twitter.com/zO67bl81fX

We suggest taking this leak with a pinch of salt, but it isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors recently claiming the new MacBook Pro could feature a notch. Earlier this week, a user on Reddit claimed to have heard that the machines would feature a notch, corroborating that Face ID wouldn’t be present and that Touch ID would carry on to be the main authentication method for users.
Apple’s forthcoming MacBook Pro is expected to see the bezels slimmed to offer a more expansive display area. Because of the shrunken bezels, a notch could very well be needed for the FaceTime camera, microphone, and ambient light sensor, but of course, nothing is official until Apple announces it.
Other MacBook Pro rumors include a 1080p webcam, 16GB of memory for the base models, added ports, and the return of MagSafe charging.
