Apple likely to continue to see AirPods Max supply constraints until April
Apple launched its long-rumored over-ear AirPods Max headphones in December, priced at $549, featuring a custom acoustic design, H1 chips, Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, and spatial audio.
The wearables quickly sold out within an hour of release, with some colors at the time showing they would be unavailable until March. Now, Apple CFO Luca Maestri has said AirPods Max supply constraints are expected until around April.
Commenting on iPhone supply constraints today during Apple’s Q1 2021 earnings call, Maestri said that Apple expects to get on track with AirPods Max demand by March, meaning mainstream availability is likely during the month of April.
Apple CEO Tim Cook also briefly touched upon AirPods Max in a report by Reuters, saying he expects supply to improve during Q2 2021.
Today, Apple started selling standalone AirPods Max ear cushions online and through the Apple Store app, giving the ability for the headphones to be personalized by mixing and matching different ear cushion colors to create a custom combination.
