Epic Games says Fortnite usage down 60% on iOS since ban
Epic Games has seen Fortnite usage down 60% on iOS since Apple removed the game from the App Store last month, according to legal filling submitted to the courts by the game’s developers on Friday in an effort to stop Apple’s “retaliation” and bring Fortnite back to the App Store.
Last Friday, Apple terminated Epic Games’ developer account after Epic implemented a new “direct payment” option to its iOS app to evade the 30% commission Apple takes on in-app purchases.
Epic Games took Apple to court to dispute the removal, with the judge dismissing Epic’s request to have Fortnite reinstated to the App Store, noting that “Epic Games strategically chose to breach its agreements with Apple which changed the status quo.”
As reported by Reuters, Epic Games has filed for a preliminary injunction seeking to have Fortnite put back on the App Store, claiming users playing Fortnite on iOS is down 60% since the ban, says that it is “likely to suffer irreparable harm” if Fortnite is not available on the App Store and that “the balance of harms tips sharply in Epic’s favor.”
Epic also states that 63% of Fortnite users on iOS only access the service through that platform and that it has over 116 million registered Fortnite users on iOS, more than any other platform.
