Apple on schedule to release 2020 5G iPhone line in fall, claims Bloomberg
Apple is on schedule to release its range of 5G iPhone models in fall, according to a report from Bloomberg which dismisses earlier claims by supposed manufacturing sources that speculated the launch of Apple’s 2020 iPhone line could be delayed “by months,”.
Bloomberg reports that despite the issues caused as a result of iPhone manufacturers being forced to halt manufacturing in China as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, Apple is still on track to follow its usual fall launch schedule for this year’s iPhone line.
Last week, Nikkei Asian Review claimed Apple is supposedly considering delaying the launch of its 5G iPhone 12 line “by months”, not wanting the weakened demand for smartphones to jeopardise the success of its new handsets.
Following the report, both Bloomberg and Taiwan-based website DigiTimes published stories disagreeing with the claims that Apple was asking suppliers to halt mass production of its next-generation iPhone line, which typically would enter mass production in summer.
While manufacturers such as Foxconn are set to be ready to begin production on schedule, it is yet to be seen if component suppliers are able to meet demand and ship parts to Apple’s assembly partners without the earlier factory closures hitting supply.
