Apple Store employees to get unlimited sick leave for coronavirus-like symptoms
Apple will give its retail employees unlimited sick leave if they experience any coronavirus-like symptoms, according to reports following the leak of an internal memo which showed Apple was encouraging employees at most — but not all — of Apple’s corporate locations across the world, including California, Seattle, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom to work remotely this week.
According to 9to5Mac, retail staff are not required to submit a doctor’s note for any time off incurred as a result of COVID-19 symptoms, with the leave not affecting an employees sick day allowance.
The lax rules also apply to hourly employees, according to the report.
Apple has cancelled a number of its in-store “Today at Apple” sessions in an effort to reduce the number of people in its stores, with some Genius Bar appointments also being cancelled or rescheduled for alternative dates.
