Chipmaker TMSC reports record August revenue ahead of 2019 iPhone launch
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TMSC) has reported a record breaking August revenue increase, up 16.5% year-on-year, ahead of Apple unveiling its next-generation iPhone line later today, announcing revenue hit NT $106.12 billion (US $3.4 billion) last month.
The report suggests Apple has faith that this year’s iPhone line will perform well, with no signs that Apple is ordering fewer components than in previous years amid wide-spread belief that Apple’s current iPhone line, comprising of the iPhone XR and iPhone XS received less interest than anticipated, resulting in fewer unit sales and a significantly reduced production output.
On Monday, a report from financial services and investments company Wedbush Securities claimed Apple has the capacity to ramp iPhone production to 80 million units during the 2019 launch period depending on the level of pent up demand/pre-order activity starting in mid-September, with 75 million units supposedly on order, signalling a slight increase compared to this time last year.
