Apple to launch new 16-inch MacBook Pro in fall, refreshed MacBook Air also rumored
Apple is readying an all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro and updated MacBook Air to launch this fall, according to an industry report from IHS Market, published by Forbes.
The report suggests the new MacBook Pro will feature a 3072×1920 resolution, compared to the 2880×1800 panel used on all 15-inch MacBook Pro models since 2012, and will include an LCD display manufactured by LG.
Within the report, IHS Market strengthens earlier claims by world-renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who noted Apple would update the 13-inch MacBook Pro with a minor spec increase, with the addition of a 32 GB RAM option.
Few details were shared about Apple’s plans for the refreshed MacBook Air, though it is expected that the machine will get minor spec bumps around the same time period as the all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Earlier claims had suggested Samsung Display was gearing up to become Apple’s supplier of OLED panels for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, though the report from IHS Market this week clearly states the new Mac model as an LCD machine.
The alleged launch period of the updated Mac hardware would coincide with when Apple is scheduled to release macOS Catalina.
