Samsung allegedly supplying Apple with OLED displays for new 16-inch MacBook Pro
Samsung Display is allegedly in talks with Apple about supplying OLED panels for the rumored 2019 all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro, according to Korean site The Elec, with the source claiming the discussions are taking place for Samsung Display to also become the main screen supplier for future iPad Pro models.
Asides from reports shared by leading industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier in the year who suggested the updated MacBook Pro model would be available in a screen size between 16 to 16.5-inches, very little is known about the new 2019 MacBook.
The news comes after Apple unveiled an updated MacBook Pro on Tuesday, featuring Intel’s 8th and 9th-generation processors, with high-end models featuring eight cores for the first time.
Despite the rocky past between Apple and Samsung, Samsung Display is one of the few suppliers that can manufacture high-quality panels in volumes Apple would require. The firm has worked closely with Apple on parts for the iPhone, though reports had suggested Apple was looking to breakaway from Samsung Display, with LG Display reportedly gaining more orders from Apple to become less reliant on Samsung’s components.
The Elec has an unproven track record when sharing Apple news, but as we move throughout the year we’ll hopefully be receiving more reports regarding the “all-new” machine.
