Apple to limit 5G to new premium 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch models in 2020
Reports from Chinese media outlets originating from profound industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claim Apple will add 5G support to the iPhone in 2020, specifically to two new premium models in 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes, with the lower-cost 6.1-inch model (the follow-on from the 2019 iPhone XR predecessor) said to be keeping standard LTE support.
All three new iPhone models expected to arrive in 2020 will reportedly feature OLED displays.
Within the report, the sources claim the new 5G-equipped iPhone models will likely use Qualcomm baseband chips to connect to the high-speed 5G cellular networks until Apple’s own in-house 5G baseband chip will be ready, likely in 2022.
The devices are expected to support both leading standards: sub-6GHz and mmWave technology.
