Apple removes AirPort line of products from sale, now fully discontinued
After confirming that development on its AirPort line of products had been stopped earlier in the year, Apple has removed its AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time Capsule from sale on Apple.com, signalling the end to the Apple networking line of hardware.
Since the announcement that the company would be retiring the AirPort line, Apple has continued to sell the last remaining stock it holds, but it appears that stock pile has dried, with customers looking to purchase the hardware being forced to search for third-party retailers who may have stock or used devices on eBay.
Despite being discontinued, Apple will continue to push software updates when necessary to add security fixes and stability improvements to the line of devices according to the company.
Bloomberg reported in late 2016 that Apple “has disbanded its division that develops wireless routers, another move to try to sharpen the company’s focus on consumer products that generate the bulk of its revenue.”
