Apple is reportedly abandoning AirPort products, with employees moving to other projects
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple “has disbanded its division that develops wireless routers, another move to try to sharpen the company’s focus on consumer products that generate the bulk of its revenue.” – Over the past year, Apple has been reportedly closing their AirPort devision, with engineers changing their focus to the Apple TV.
Apple’s AirPort line, which comprises of the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule, hasn’t seen a refresh to its routers since 2013, with price reductions spotted online with third-party retailers. – As of yet, Apple is still listing all three AirPort products as available for sale online, with no mention when or if the products will be removed and classed as discontinued.
In the move to focus on products which generate the bulk of its revenue, Apple has recently stepped out of the standalone external monitor business, with Apple announcing a new partnership with LG by selling their new high-resolution screens alongside the launch of the new 2016 MacBook Pro.
