Apple to price AirPower at $149, compatible with all new 2018 iPhone models
Reports from “industry insiders” claim Apple will price its long-awaited AirPower charging mat at around 1,000 Chinese yuan, roughly $145 in the United States, according to Chinese website Chongdiantou (via LoveiOS), who suggest that all three new iPhone models launching later in the year will be compatible with the charging mat.
While the reliability of the source is unknown, the prospect of the charger launching alongside Apple’s three new iPhone models matches reports from some of Apple’s most prominent analysts, including Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Following reports that claimed an overheating issue had forced Apple to delay the release of the accessory until September, it now appears the wait may finally be coming to an end. We still know very little information about AirPower and how it will work, however; Apple claims that the mat will ‘communicate’ between each device charging and intelligently decide on how much power each device requires.
AirPower may run a basic version of iOS to manage power and complex circuitry, as well as to communicate with the devices that are charging as mentioned above.

AirPower was first previewed alongside the unveiling of the iPhone X last September. Users will be able to charge up to three devices at once, including their Apple Watch Series 3, compatible Apple Watch charging case, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X on the wireless charging mat, with new products expected to gain wireless charging capabilities in the future.
