New iPhone 8 concept images imagine how a curved iPhone display with “function area” and embedded Home button could look like
With excitement growing for the launch of Apple’s 10th anniversary handset, new iPhone 8 concept images imagine how a curved iPhone display with “function area” and embedded Home button could look like. The concepts from Gabor Balogh show an iPhone with Siri integrated AR features, something Apple is said to be internally testing which would allow the personal assistant to “recognise objects, know where you are, what your activity is and what you probably need in that moment.” – “Siri would now not only listen to you, but would see the world. It would recognize objects, know where you are, what your activity is and what you probably need in that moment.”
The device is said to feature a glass body and edge-to-edge OLED display that includes an integrated Touch ID fingerprint sensor and front-facing camera. While the iPhone 8 will be the star of Apple’s 2017 iPhone line-up, the company is also said to be planning an iPhone 7s update which will upgrade the current flagship iPhone handsets Apple offer. While it’s unclear if Apple will be calling their 10th anniversary iPhone the “iPhone 8”, “iPhone X” or “iPhone Edition”, one thing which does look certain is that the handset won’t ship to customers until October or even later according to a recent report from Japanese blog, Macotokara.
The report claimed that Apple is taking their time in testing the several different prototypes of the handset given to their design team, with the company still unsettled on a firm favourite to enter mass production ahead of September when the company is said to be launching the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus. Given the time needed to manufacture iPhones to ship to the masses, Macotokara claim that the handset likely won’t ship to expectant customers until much later this fall — or possibly even next year.
The beautiful concept images shown below imagine what the handset would look like if the background of the home screen was a live view into the real world behind. The concepts build on from what is already widely expected to be included as part of the iPhone 8 and as more information begins to surface over time we’ll be given an even clearer insight into what the company’s 10th anniversary handset shall offer.
It’s worth noting that reports from Japan continue to claim that Apple will keep the highly anticipated curved OLED display as a feature exclusively available on the premium, higher priced iPhone 8 handset, with sources claiming that Apple will use LCD panels similar to those Apple has been using for the iPhone since its introduction in 2007 for the more affordable 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s models. It’s understood that the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will be enhanced versions of the current iPhone 7 line.
