Apple’s Chief Design Officer, Sir Jony Ive celebrates his 50th birthday
British born industrial designer, Sir Jonathan Ive is today celebrating his 50th birthday, shortly after what would have been the 62nd birthday of co-founder and former CEO of both Apple and Pixar, Steve Jobs. – Born in Chingford near London, United Kingdom, Jony Ive has been responsible for the design of some of Apple’s most popular products, including the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch as well as the layout and design of Apple’s next generation retail stores.
It was while working for design agency Tangerine that Ive first encountered Apple, who was a client of the company at the time. Ive helped to create the Powerbook laptops and joined Apple as a full-time designer in 1992. – Ive masterminded the aesthetics of the iPod, the device revolutionised the personal music player market, and utilised the now famous click-wheel design.
Most recently, Jony Ive was in the news for designing the Christmas tree for Claridge’s, a central London hotel, which featured a very minimalist design…. So much so the tree didn’t feature any decorations as The Independent reports.
