Images claim to show new 18W USB-C charger coming with 2018 iPhone models
Images supposedly originating from within Apple’s supply chain are backing up earlier reports that claimed future iPhone models released later this year would include an 18W USB-C charger bundled in the box, allowing customers to use fast-charging without having to buy additional accessories.
Shared by Japanese-based news site Macotakara, the leaked images show what appears to be a prototype of the new 18W USB-C charger destined for Apple’s 2018 iPhone line-up. The accessory matches schematics seen earlier in the year, showing a rather chunky oval shaped design with a cutout for Apple’s USB-C charging cable.
An 18W power adapter would be a large upgrade from the small 5W power adapter that ships with current iPhone models. Fast charging out of the box would be a huge advantage for iPhone users. An 18W USB-C power adapter would enable fast charging speeds which could charge an iPhone from 0% to 50% in approximately 30 minutes.
Although the images look promising, the accessory shown in the images could simply be a cheap third-party copycat. The 18W USB-C charger will launch alongside a 6.1-inch LCD low-cost iPhone as well as an upgraded iPhone X and a new, larger iPhone X Plus.
