HomePod firmware leaks iPhone 8 bezel-less design & “FaceDetect” facial recognition
HomePod firmware appears to of leaked details surrounding the upcoming iPhone 8, internally known as “D22”, revealing Apple’s refreshed bezel-less design and new “FaceDetect” facial recognition system codenamed “Pearl ID”.
Discovered by developer Steve Troughton-Smith, HomePod firmware includes a range of references to a new facial detection system within the BiometricKit framework that is currently home to Touch ID authentication. – Apple now includes a new “FaceDetect” method within the BiometricKit framework which identifies when a users face is too close or too far from the camera, the presence of multiple faces, and more.
While it’s unclear if the iPhone will solely depend on “FaceDetect” facial recognition as the devices stand-alone security and user authentication system, this appears to be one of the most prominent iPhone 8 leaks to day coming from Apple themselves.
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 is building itself up to be one of the most anticipated iPhone releases of all time. It’s believed Apple will release two iPhone models in September, an iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus that will be minor updates to Apple’s current iPhone 7 offerings as well as an all new, dramatically redesigned iPhone 8. Reports claim the device will feature an edge-to-edge OLED display integrated into an all glass body.
