Fast wireless charging for iPhone to launch with iOS 11.2
When Apple announced their line of new iPhones this year, wireless charging was definitely one of the most talked about features. The one only thing that came as a disappointment was the fact that devices could only charge at 5 watts despite using Qi wireless chargers that support a faster standard. That all seems to be changing according to new information.
RavPower, a portable accessory maker, claims that iOS 11.2 will bring the features we’ve all been waiting for. MacRumors also claims to have wirelessly charged an iPhone X from 46 to 66 percent over the course of thirty minutes on 11.2 and charged that same phone from 46 percent to 60 percent over 30 minutes when using a wireless charger that does not offer 7.5W charging speeds. Right now iOS 11.2 can only be used by registered developers and public beta testers, but we should see a public release within the next few weeks.
Currently, on iOS 11.1.1, the three devices (iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X) charge at 5 watts while using compatible Qi wireless chargers, but Apple promised that faster speeds would become available in a future update. It appears 11.2 will be that chance. It should also be noted that if you picked up a Belkin or Mophie charging pad from Apple, both will support the faster 7.5W wireless charging speeds.
