Apple’s next update to the iPhone line-up will bring improved IP68-rated water resistance
According to The Korea Herald, Apple’s next update to the iPhone line-up shall bring improved IP68-rated water resistance, a step up from the IP67-certification given to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, allowing for the handset to be in depths up to 1.5 meters (just under 5 feet) for up to 30 minutes.
“Apple’s iPhone 8 will feature the IP68 rating as part of drastic upgrades marking the 10th anniversary of the iPhone this year,” the anonymous source told The Korea Herald.
While Apple continues to push the “splash and water resistants” capabilities of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Water Damage is still not covered under Apple’s Apple Care warranty, meaning users still need to be cautious when using their devices in or around water.
