Apple will continue to replace Apple Watch Series 1 models with detached back covers for free until April 2018
According to a leaked internal service document, Apple will continue to replace defective Apple Watch Series 1 models, including the Hermés models to the high-end Edition range, that have detached back covers for free in Apple Stores until April 2018.
The document tells Apple Store employees that no data diagnostics are required to authorise a repair, asking staff to visually inspect the devices to see if they qualify for the program. – For customers who are unable to visit an Apple Store, you can call Apple to arrange for a shipment of the damaged Apple Watch to an Apple Repair Center in a postage paid box.
Apple recently extended the service policy’s coverage period to up to three years after the original purchase date of the wearable. – This means that if you bought an Apple Watch in April 2015, for example, it is eligible for a free repair until April 2018.
Apple has determined that under certain conditions on some Apple Watch (1st generation) devices the back cover may separate from the watch case. Apple will service eligible devices free of charge. Apple will authorize coverage for three (3) years from the date of purchase.
