Apple reports male staff in UK earn 5% more than women
Speaking with Reuters on Tuesday, Apple reported how male employees in the UK earned on average 5 percent more than women, while the median pay for women was 2 percent higher than men.
Apple claims their 5 percent gender pay gap is due to the fact that more male engineers are in top-tier positions than women, which leads to higher pay, raises, and stock.
Within the report, Apple notes how 30 percent of its workforce in the United Kingdom is represented by women, rising from 28 percent in 2014. – Apple employs more than 6,000 workers in the UK across three segments – Apple (UK) Ltd, Apple Europe Ltd and Apple Retail UK Ltd.
The announcement by Apple comes as employers within the United Kingdom with more than 250 staff are required by new government regulations to publicly report their gender pay gap. – Apple has said they shall begin to work toward closing the gap.
Apple believes strongly that equal work deserves equal pay. Every year, we examine the compensation employees receive and make adjustments where necessary to ensure we maintain pay equity. And we have achieved this in every country — women at our company earn the same as men when you factor in similar roles, markets and performance.
