Apple Fitness+ adds Gym Strength with personalized four-week workout plans

Apple Fitness+ is moving beyond trainer-led videos with Gym Strength, a new feature that builds a personalized four-week weightlifting plan around a user’s goals, available equipment and workout schedule.
Now available to test in the iOS 27.3 and iPadOS 27.3 betas, Gym Strength recommends exercises, sets, repetitions and weights, then adjusts the next week’s sessions using the work completed so far. The program supports more than 350 exercises and over 30 kinds of gym equipment.
Unlike a fixed video workout, each plan can account for the days a person wants to train, the muscle groups they want to focus on and the equipment they can access. Apple offers shorter sessions built around five exercises, estimated at 20 to 30 minutes, and longer options with seven exercises that can run 45 to 60 minutes.
How Apple Fitness+ Gym Strength works
Workout instructions include short demonstrations from Apple Fitness+ trainers, with three camera angles available to help explain each movement. Users can swap a piece of equipment if it is occupied, choose a comparable exercise, add sets or skip exercises.
The program works with equipment from dumbbells and kettlebells to cable machines and barbells, although Apple says dumbbells are the minimum requirement. On an Apple Watch running watchOS 27.3, users can see their exercise plan, record reps and weights and track metrics such as heart rate and calories burned.
An optional Apple Intelligence feature called Training Note summarizes the upcoming workout, explains how a plan is progressing and highlights milestones. It requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone or iPad set to English.
When will Gym Strength be available?
Gym Strength is included with Apple Fitness+ rather than sold as a separate subscription. The service costs $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year in the U.S., with availability and pricing depending on the market.
The new program is available in beta now and forms part of the wider iOS 27.3 feature rollout. Apple’s redesigned Health app is also returning in iOS 27.3, although it is a separate experience from Fitness+ Gym Strength. Both reflect Apple’s growing focus on using device data to help people build and maintain routines.
