Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2 support new four-speaker surround sound

Apple is introducing a new four-speaker surround sound setup for the home, combining Apple TV 4K (4th generation) with HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers.
The setup is Apple’s most immersive home theater configuration yet, according to the company, with the system automatically working out where each speaker is positioned in the room.
In its HomePod mini 2 announcement, Apple says the speakers and new Apple TV 4K automatically calibrate audio timing and levels to the space.
Apple’s four-speaker setup uses matching front and rear pairs
The feature requires four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers arranged in matching front and rear pairs, together with Apple TV 4K (4th generation) running the latest software.
That moves Apple’s home theater offering beyond the stereo-pair setup many Apple TV owners use today, giving customers a way to build a more conventional surround configuration entirely with Apple speakers.
The feature arrives as part of the HomePod mini 2 launch and the new fourth-generation Apple TV 4K.
HomePod mini 2 is available to pre-order now and reaches stores on October 30.
