Apple unveils new Apple TV 4K as part of major smart home push

Apple has unveiled a new Apple TV 4K, refreshing its living-room streaming box as part of the company’s wider “Welcome home” product launch.
The new model becomes Apple TV 4K (4th generation) and is designed to work more closely with the company’s expanded smart home lineup, including HomeView, HomePod mini 2 and Apple Home Collection accessories.
Apple details the new model in its official announcement, with the update focused on faster hardware, deeper Siri integration and a broader role at the center of the home.
Apple TV 4K becomes part of Apple’s new home ecosystem
The new Apple TV 4K can act as a home hub, giving users a way to control compatible accessories and view activity from cameras and video doorbells through Apple Home.
It also works with HomePod mini 2 in Apple’s new four-speaker surround sound setup. Apple says Apple TV 4K can recognize speaker positions in the room and automatically calibrate audio timing and levels for the space.
That tighter integration makes the Apple TV more than a streaming box in Apple’s new home strategy, with HomeView handling shared visual controls and HomePod mini 2 adding voice and audio around the home.
The launch follows the announcement of HomePod mini 2 and Apple’s new HomeView smart home hub.
Apple is also introducing Apple Home Collection, a lineup of cameras, locks, thermostats and sensors designed to work directly with Apple Home.
