Leaked images found inside Apple’s own code have offered what appears to be the first look at HomePod mini 2, confirming that Apple’s long-awaited speaker refresh will retain the familiar design of the original model.
The images were discovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris and are specifically associated with a device identified as “HomePod mini 2.” Their appearance in Apple’s software provides some of the strongest evidence yet that the new speaker is close to launch.

Externally, very little appears to have changed. HomePod mini 2 keeps the compact spherical body, fabric covering and illuminated touch surface used by the original HomePod mini since 2020.
That means the biggest changes are expected to happen inside. Reports have pointed to a substantially newer processor, improved audio, newer wireless connectivity and upgraded Ultra Wideband capabilities.
Siri AI is also expected to be central to the new model. The Apple Post recently reported that HomePod 27 software contains the underlying Linwood system used by Siri AI, alongside redesigned Siri status lights and sounds.
Apple did not announce Siri AI support for existing HomePod hardware at WWDC26, fueling expectations that the assistant’s new capabilities will require updated hardware.
HomePod mini 2 is currently expected to launch as soon as October, six years after Apple introduced the original model.
The leaked imagery does not reveal the internal specifications, but its explicit HomePod mini 2 labeling leaves considerably less ambiguity about Apple’s plans for a second-generation model.
Apple is preparing a broader push into the smart home, with a new Apple TV 4K and dedicated smart home hub also expected. The HomePod mini refresh could become an important entry point to that lineup as Apple brings Siri AI further into the home.
