Apple Watch Series 12 introduces new Readiness score to tell you when to push or recover

Apple Watch Series 12 introduces a new Readiness feature that turns health, sleep and activity data into a simple daily score designed to show how prepared the body is for the day ahead.
Readiness analyzes recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep score before assigning a number from 0 to 10. Apple then pairs the score with one of four recommendations: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It.
The score is not fixed for the entire day. Apple says Readiness can update as new information comes in, including after a demanding workout or when daytime health measurements begin to shift.
The Apple Post reported ahead of the event that Apple was preparing a dedicated Readiness experience for Apple Watch, after references to the feature appeared in watchOS 27 beta code.
Series 12’s new Health Sensing System gives Readiness significantly more data to work with. The watch now measures heart rate every five seconds throughout the day and can collect heart rate variability readings up to 24 times more frequently.
Users can see which factors are influencing their score and tap into the underlying data for more detail, making the feature useful both for fitness training and for deciding whether to take a lighter day.
According to Apple, the scoring algorithm was developed using data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study alongside exercise scientists and physicians.
