Only 60,000 to 80,000 Apple Vision Pro units will be available for pre-order on Friday
Apple will have only 60,000 to 80,000 Apple Vision Pro units available for pre-orders in the US on Friday, according to respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who predicts that the headset will sell out shortly after its release due to the low quantities that will be available to begin with.
In a post on Medium, Kuo believes “Apple’s core fans and heavy users” will be behind the initial wave of Apple Vision Pro orders, leading to the device selling out soon after it is available for pre-order or sale, resulting in a longer shipping time. However, Kuo says “whether the demand for Vision Pro can be sustained after the novelty wears off is even more important, depending on whether Vision Pro’s product positioning and key applications are clear and correct.”
Apple unveiled its new $3,499 Apple Vision Pro headset last year, made from a singular piece of three-dimensionally formed laminated glass with an aluminum alloy frame that curves to wrap a user’s face. The device features an array of advanced cameras and sensors that work together to enable the mixed-reality experience, and speakers are positioned close to a users ears to deliver Spatial Audio to create life-like three-dimensional environments.
The new Apple Vision Pro headset runs a software called visionOS, which is heavily inspired by macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. visionOS features a brand-new three-dimensional interface controlled by a person’s eyes, hands, and voice. Users can browse through apps by simply looking at them, tapping their fingers to select, flicking their wrist to scroll, or using voice to dictate.
