Apple has lowered the price of the Studio Display XDR when configured with the VESA mount adapter, cutting the cost by $400 in an unusual move for the company.
The VESA mount version of the Studio Display XDR now starts at $2,899, down from its original $3,299 price. The nano-texture glass version with the VESA mount has also been reduced, dropping from $3,599 to $3,199.
When the Studio Display XDR launched last month, Apple priced both stand options at the same $3,299 starting price. That meant customers choosing the VESA mount adapter paid the same amount as those selecting Apple’s more advanced height- and tilt-adjustable stand.
Many customers questioned the pricing, as the VESA mount adapter is simply a flat plate designed to connect the display to an existing monitor arm or wall mount, while the adjustable stand includes significantly more hardware.
According to MacRumors, Apple is now refunding customers who purchased the VESA mount versions of the Studio Display XDR before the price change took effect.
The move is unusual for Apple, which rarely lowers the price of newly launched products shortly after release.
