New Apple Pencil to launch on Tuesday instead of new iPads, report suggests
Amid a wave of competing rumors, in which some suggest that Apple will announce three new iPad models this week, including an upgraded iPad Air, iPad mini, and refreshed entry-level iPad on Tuesday, whereas others report that a launch “won’t happen this month,” a new report has cast further confusion, claiming that only a new Apple Pencil could be announced this week.
Japanese blog Mac Otakara (via MacRumors) has said that “rather than an update to the iPad itself, the Apple Pencil 3 will be launched,” bringing with it interchangeable magnetic tips, as rumored earlier this month, which could offer users different controls and drawing capabilities.
Apple researcher Majin Bu was first to suggest that a new Apple Pencil was on the horizon, saying that the updated stylus would introduce swappable tips for different drawing techniques that require precise input and drawing, such as fine painting brushstrokes or precise technical drawings.
Apple last updated the Apple Pencil in November 2018. It introduced several new features and improvements over the first-generation Apple Pencil including magnetic attachment to the side of comparable iPad models, gesture controls so users can double-tap the Pencil to switch between different tools in compatible apps, and a matte finish, providing a more comfortable grip and a premium feel compared to the first-generation Pencil.
The second-generation Apple Pencil also provides better accuracy and lower latency, providing a more responsive and precise writing and drawing experience.
