Gurman unsure about imminent iPad launch rumors, saying it “won’t happen this month”

Earlier today, reports from two sources claimed that on Tuesday, October 17, Apple will announce three new iPad models, including an upgraded iPad Air, iPad mini, and refreshed entry-level iPad, although respected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has cast doubt on the rumors of an imminent iPad launch.
In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman has put reports of an imminent iPad refresh into question, saying that whilst he too originally expected new models to launch in October, “the latest indications are that it won’t happen this month.”
Gurman says that new entry-level iPad, iPad Air and iPad mini are all in development with faster chips, but the new devices shouldn’t be expected imminently, going against a report on Sunday by Supercharged, which was later corroborated by 9to5Mac over the weekend.
When the new models launch, Apple will upgrade the iPad Air for the first time in close to three years, with the device likely to switch from the M1 chip to the newer M2 processor found in the MacBook Air.
As for the iPad mini and regular iPad, Apple is expected to upgrade these devices with new A-series chips, with all three models likely to retain their existing design and general capabilities.
