Twitter to launch new, sub-$1000 Verification for Organizations program for small businesses

Twitter CEO Elon Musk has revealed that the platform is working on a new, cheaper version of its $1000 Verification for Organizations program, which gives subscribers a gold checkmark and square avatar on their profile to distinguish them as an official organization, plus access to premium support, elevated Tweet, DM, and media upload rate limits, and the perks of Twitter Blue — including the ability to edit tweets, post longer tweets, prioritized rankings in conversations, and more.
Twitter’s $1000 Verification for Organizations program launched late last year amid Musk’s rash shakeup of the platform’s verification system, which has seen all previously verified accounts, that received a checkmark upon completing some form of ID checks, stripped of their badges, with any user able to pay for a blue verification checkmark, without Twitter checking whether the accounts were genuine and represented the company or individual they claimed they did, leading to a mass spate of high-profile impersonations on the platform.
With the dust starting to settle, and with Twitter implementing some small verification steps, including the requirement for accounts to verify a phone number before receiving a checkmark, Musk has revealed that the platform is working on a new, cheaper version of its $1000 Verification for Organizations program, making the subscription more affordable for smaller businesses who use Twitter.
In a tweet, Musk said “We will have a lower cost tier for small businesses, but need to manage the onboarding of organizations carefully to prevent fraud. The $1000/month is meant for larger organizations.”

It isn’t clear when the lower cost tier of Twitter’s Verification for Organizations program could launch, nor what the new, sub-$1000 price could be.
Twitter currently has three types of verification on the platform: Twitter Blue, Verification for Organizations and gray checkmarks. The blue checkmark means that an account has an active subscription to Twitter Blue. The gold checkmark indicates that the account is an official business account through Twitter Verified Organizations. The grey checkmark indicates that an account represents a government/multilateral organization or a government/multilateral official.
