Apple is reportedly already testing the second-generation iPhone Duo, with a new rumor claiming the foldable could gain a three-camera system and potentially move away from the nano-texture display finish used on the first-generation model.
Leaker Majin Bu claims the iPhone Duo 2 has successfully passed testing alongside Apple’s rumored iPhone Ultra, the major anniversary model expected as part of the company’s 2027 iPhone plans. The source says the next Duo will feature three cameras, while Apple is also said to be considering a different type of display that could eliminate the current nano-texture finish.
The claim follows The Apple Post’s earlier report that iPhone Duo 2 could launch as soon as spring 2027, potentially separating the foldable from Apple’s fall launch plans for the 20th-anniversary iPhone.
A move to three cameras would address one of the most obvious differences between iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro models. The first-generation Duo has a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera and 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide camera, with the Main camera also providing an optical-quality 2x Telephoto option. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro models, by comparison, use a dedicated three-camera rear system.
Majin Bu did not provide details about what the third camera would be. A dedicated telephoto camera would be one possibility, but there is currently no evidence confirming the type of lens Apple may be testing.
The display claim is also notable. Apple has made the nano-texture finish a major part of the first iPhone Duo’s 7.6-inch folding display, saying the matte surface reduces glare and reflections while helping minimize the visibility of the crease. Apple says the inner display uses a custom polymer cover layer alongside high-strength glass, custom adhesives and a titanium plate to protect the folding panel.
If Apple does move away from nano-texture on the second generation, it is unclear what would replace it or why the company would make the change so quickly. The wording of the leak suggests Apple may still be evaluating different display technologies rather than having finalized the design.
The latest report should be treated cautiously. Majin Bu has a mixed record with Apple leaks, although the source correctly revealed the iPhone Duo name before Apple’s September event, when the foldable was still widely expected to use different branding. The leaker has also previously shared accurate information about the iPhone 16e name, Desert Titanium and other Apple products.
Apple’s first iPhone Duo does not reach customers until October 23, making detailed claims about its successor unusually early. If the previously rumored spring 2027 launch proves accurate, however, Apple may already be considerably further into development of the second-generation model than its unusual release timing would otherwise suggest.
