Apple to lay off small number of corporate retail employees, according to report

Apple is reportedly planning to lay off a small number of corporate retail employees working on its development and preservation teams, who are responsible for the construction and upkeep of Apple retail stores and other facilities around the world, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The move is part of a belt-tightening effort, similar to efforts made by other tech giants including Google, Meta, Amazon, and more in an industry-wide effort to cut costs amid the economic downturn.
According to the report, employees who’s jobs will be made redundant will have the chance to reapply for other jobs at Apple. In addition, those who don’t get a new role in the company will get up to four months of pay.
Apple has been slowing down hiring since late last year, with the company pausing hiring for most jobs outside of research and development in November, followed by a temporary freeze to employee bonuses in March.
In addition to the staff layoffs, it is also understood that Apple has also cut engineers and security guards that held contracting roles for the company.
